Christantus Uche Sparks Straightforward Crystal Palace Victory at Irish Side Shelbourne.
Despite entering their maiden continental adventure, Crystal Palace are adapting very quickly. Missing star figures like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles left Dublin with a commanding result that all but guarantees them a place in the Conference League playoffs.
Another victory in their next match against Finland's KuPS should be sufficient to secure direct entry to the knockout stages, especially after a previous setback against Strasbourg.
Squad Members Seize the Moment
This occasion offered a chance for several Palace's lesser-used players to shine. Christantus Uche, making only his second beginning after joining on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a well-taken finish. Forward Eddie Nketiah added a second, scoring for the second consecutive succession.
A Shelbourne team that had finished their league season proved no match even for a largely second-string Palace outfit. The visitors were further depleted by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg injuries.
Dominance Established from the Start
Despite heavy rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly established dominance. A slick move in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, allowed Nketiah to set up Uche for a straightforward tap-in.
Midfielder Adam Wharton came close minutes later, driving a powerful shot over the bar. Nketiah then claimed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the referee dismissed the protests.

The match was effectively over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past a series of comically weak challenges before coolly dispatching a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.
Following the break, coach Oliver Glasner took the chance to withdraw several players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse almost scoring with his very first touch, but saw his shot blocked.
Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one shot strike off each posts before being gathered on the line. Uche then missed a glaring chance, showing there is still scope for development in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, capping an otherwise perfect evening for the visiting side.
